Admission Requirements
Admission
to the program is quite competitive. Entering students
must hold a bachelor's degree in engineering or physical
science. Students with 3.0 or better (out of 4.0) junior/senior
cumulative grade-point averages and appropriate course
backgrounds will be considered for admission. The best-qualified
applicants will be admitted. In addition, the Graduate
Record Examination (GRE) must be taken, and minimum scores
on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Letters
of recommendation and a statement of purpose written by
the applicant are also required.
Only the very best applicants will be admitted.
Applications
will not be reviewed until they are complete.
Complete applications must include:
- on-line Graduate School Application
- $45 non-refundable application fee paid to the Graduate
School
- Statement of purpose essay
- Application for graduate assistantship
- Three letters of recommendation
- Official
report of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores – taken
after October 1, 2002 (GRE institution code is 2660,
department code 1502)
- Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher
education attended
- Official report of Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) score for all applicants whose native language
is not English (TOEFL institution code is 2660, department
code is 68)
The following minimum TOEFL scores are required by the Graduate
School:
- Paper-based test:
minimum score is 550
- Computer-based test: minimum score is 213
- Internet-based
test: minimum combined score is 80 with a minimum score
of 23 in the Speaking section.
- Resume, if available
- Copies of papers published, if applicable
- Application for visa document for all international
applicants
The application deadline for fall semester admission is January 15.
Admission and financial aid decisions are typically made by March 15.
