Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Graduate Programs Application Procedure

***The application deadline for fall semester admission is January 15.***

We require a completed application submitted by this date to be considered for the Fall semester.

Step 1. Complete the Graduate School Application On-Line

  • $45 application fee is non-refundable
  • Applications without fees cannot be processed

Step 2. Mail the following items to:

  • Statement of purpose essay
  • Application for graduate assistantship - PDF assistantship application form
    • Hard copy of form in PDF format (include in application package)
    • Electronic Form - if you also submit the electronic form, we shall notify you:
      • When application is complete, and
      • By March 15, about our decision on your application and assistantship.
  • Three letters of recommendation - PDF recommendation form
    • Recommendation letters must be sent directly from your references to the address above
    • At least one letter of recommendation from your research advisor at your most recently attended institution.
  • Official report of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in the General Test.
    • Tests taken after October 1, 2002 are preferred.
    • GRE Institution code is 2660, Department code is 1502
  • Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended, both undergraduate and graduate
    • PDF transcript request form
    • Notarized copies are not sufficient
    • International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English
  • Official report of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score from either the paper-based, computer-based, or internet-based test.
    • TOEFL is required for all applicants whose native language is not English
    • TOEFL institution code is 2660, Department code is 68
    • Text of spoken English (TSE) is strongly recommended
    • The following minimum TOEFL scores are required by the Graduate School:
      • Paper-based test: minimum score is 550
      • Computer-based test: minimum score is 213
      • Internet-based test: minimum combined score is 80 with a minimum score of 20 in the Speaking section (exception to this requirement will also be granted)
      • The IELTS test is an acceptable alternative exam to the TOEFL. A minimum composite score of 6.5 on the IELTS test is required for admission.
  • Resume, if available.
  • Copies of papers published, if applicable.
  • Application for visa document - PDF visa application form
    • Required for all international applicants
