Masters Degree Program

The objective of the M.S. degree is to gain advanced knowledge for research, analysis and design in Mechanical Engineering. A summary of degree requirements is provided below in the form of a timetable. For more detailed information, students should consult the Graduate Degree Requirements section of the Graduate Degree Programs Bulletin published by the University.

Choose a faculty advisor

End of first semester
Select thesis, paper or proposal option

End of first semester
Complete M.S. Degree Planning Form

End of first semester
Activate intent to graduate on e-Lion at https://elion.oas.psu.edu/ (beginning of last semester)

1/24      6/17      9/13
Complete graduate course credits and research

Submit draft of thesis to Graduate School for format review

2/28      6/17      10/4
Submit draft of thesis/paper to Department faculty reader and complete the M.S. Thesis/Paper Approval Form.
The faculty reader MUST be must be a member of the Graduate Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Due approximately two weeks after format review completed
Give oral presentation on thesis/paper

Submit final copy of thesis to Graduate School

Complete Graduate Student Checkout Form

Schedule exit interview with Department Head

Minimum of two weeks before leaving campus
Attend Graduate School Commencement in Eisenhower Auditorium

5/15      8/13      12/18

Option A - Thesis

Option B - Paper

Option C - Ph.D. Thesis Proposal
