The Microscale Flow Laboratory (MFL) at Penn State University specializes in the study of fluid phenomena in systems with relatively small scales. Specific systems of interest include particle-laden flows in complex microgeometries, multi-phase flows in fuel cells, and a pulsed catalytic microcombustor for power generation. In additional, MFL personnel are involved in at least one larger-scale experimental fluid mechanics project aimed at studying the flow in a bend with application to propellant delivery systems. Both experimental and computational research is underway. Research funding stems from both federal governmental agencies and industrial sponsors. Prof. Kendra Sharp is the director of the MFL.
