Mechcanical and Nuclear Engineering Distinguished
Lecture Series
The Department of Mechanical
and Nuclear Engineering has established
two distinguished lecture series, the Air Products Distinguished
Lecture series and the newly established Dusinberre Lecture
Series.
The
Air Products Distinguished lecture series has been in place
since 2003, the George M. Dusinberre Distinguished Lecture
in Thermal-Fluid Systems was just established in 2006 through
donations provided by Frank Gabron (PSU-ME, 1955) in
honor of his mentor and friend George Merrick Dusinberre. George
Merrick Dusinberre (1899-1960) was a faculty member in
Mechanical Engineering at Penn State from 1948 through
1960. Previously, he served as a naval officer. Dusinberre
published three text books on heat transfer and gas turbines.
Most notably, his posthumous text Heat-transfer Calculations
by Finite Differences was a landmark in computational methods
at the advent of digital computing. Dusinberre was one
of the organizers for the First National Heat Transfer Conference,
sponsored by ASME and AICHE.
The Air Products Distinguished
Lecture Series is sponsored with funds provided by Air Products
and has
been in place since 2003, in this series the department
brings to campus four distinguished lecturers each year to
present their most recent research findings in mechanical systems,
thermal systems, nuclear engineering, and engineering education
pedagogy.
It benefits
us to bring professional leaders and opinion shapers to Penn
State to see the good work that we are doing. Since
the Distinguished Lecture Series was established it has had
a significant effect in our national rankings and our ability
to attract the best available faculty, students and research
projects.
