Two Mechanical
Engieering Professors receive "Distinguished
Professor" title -
The University bestows the Distinguished Professor
title on select outstanding faculty in recognition
of their outstanding teaching, research, and
service at Penn State and in their profession.
A professor who holds this prestigious title
brings the highest distinction to the College
and the University. The recipients are Chao-Yang

The
Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering
has established two distinguished lecture series,
the Air Products Distinguished Lecture series
and the newly established Dusinberre Lecture
Series. The
Air Products Distinguished lecture series has
been in place since 2003, the George M. Dusinberre
Distinguished Lecture in Thermal-Fluid Systems
was just established in 2006 through donations
provided by Frank Gabron (PSU-ME, 1955) in
honor of his mentor and friend George Merrick
Dusinberre. George
Merrick Dusinberre (1899-1960) was a faculty
member in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State
from 1948 through 1960. Previously, he served
as a naval officer. Dusinberre published three
text books on heat transfer and gas turbines.
Most notably, his posthumous text Heat-transfer
Calculations by Finite Differences was a landmark
in computational methods at the advent of digital
computing. Dusinberre was one of the organizers
for the First National Heat Transfer Conference,
sponsored by ASME and AICHE. Read
