More than 760 students received their
bachelor's degrees at the College of Engineering’s
spring commencement ceremony held on Friday, May 18
at the Bryce Jordan Center.
This year's speaker was be Janet Cunningham,
president of JBC Associates, Inc. The title of her
address was ''Accept the Challenge.''
Among those students receiving degrees, fourteen
undergraduate students from the College of Engineering
served as student marshals. The student marshals
are chosen for their academic achievement and contributions
to college life, the students represent each major
within the college, as well as the Penn State Reserve
Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Program.
This year's marshals representing mechanical and
nuclear engineering were:
Mechanical engineering: Sean
Merritt of Harrisburg
is a Schreyer Scholar and an Evan Pugh Scholar. He
is a member of the Tau Beta Pi national engineering
honor society, the National Society of Collegiate
Scholars and the Blue Band. His faculty escort was
Domenic Santavicca, professor of mechanical engineering.
Nuclear engineering: Joshua
Hykes of Columbia is
an Evan Pugh Scholar and Schreyer Scholar. He received
the Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate
Fellowship, the Exelon Energy for Education Scholarship,
the Nuclear Engineering Scholarship, the President
Sparks Award and the President's Freshman Award.
His faculty escort was Yousry Azmy, professor
of nuclear engineering.
