There
are many opportunities available for corporations and industry
to partner with Penn State, the College of Engineering,
and the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Below
are a few of the ways that corporations can interact with
Penn State to exchange ideas and information or to help strengthen
programs.
Online Job Posting
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an online job posting service
that is a free service for companies to post their permanent or temporary
job openings that is easily accessible to all mechanical and nuclear engineering
students. Companies have the flexibility to post their positions up to nine
months and can specify other requirements such as the major they are seeking
(i.e., mechanical and/or nuclear engineering degree) as well as degree(s),
job location, minimum GPA, etc. We invite companies to take advantage of
this free service by completing the online form. To post a job, click
here.
Search Student Resumes
In addition to offering an online job posting service, companies may also search
student resumes online. Companies can search our online student resumes by
minimum GPA, degree(s), and specialty areas within mechanical and nuclear
engineering. To search student resumes, click
here.
IPAC
Advisory Board (2008 IPAC committee
members)
Each College of Engineering department has their own Industrial and Professional
Advisory Council (IPAC) which is made up of representatives from industry,
government agencies, academia and the profession. They help advise the various
departments and the College of Engineering on academic issues and on current
trends and future directions in engineering. IPAC is a forum where ideas
are exchanged and recommendations are made and provides a direct link between
the College and the engineering profession. If you are interested in becoming
a member of the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering IPAC, contact: Dr.
Karen Thole, Department Head, phone (814) 865-2519 or by e-mail
at KThole@psu.edu.
Learning Factory Student Project Support
Since January of 1995, industry-sponsored projects continue to make a significant
difference in engineering education at Penn State. Seniors from mechanical,
industrial, electrical, and aerospace engineering apply their in-depth training
in engineering science and design by executing a real-world project defined
by an industrial sponsor. These senior design teams work closely with corporate
sponsors to solve product or process design problems. Industry sponsors provide
financial support and project mentoring and have consistently reported a
high degree of satisfaction with the project results. For more information
on the Learning Factory or to sponsor a project, please contact: Leland
Engel at lge2@psu.edu, or visit the website for summaries of completed projects
at: www.lf.psu.edu.
Co-Op and Internships
The Engineering Cooperative Education and Internship
Program at Penn State has been in existence for over seventeen
years, and more than 4,000 students have gained career-related
work experience through the program. They are the single
source for statewide, national, and international cooperative
education and internship experiences. The program's
collective goals are for students to engineer their future
careers and for employers to engineer their workforce. For
more information, contact the Engineering
Cooperative Education and Internship Office at: 205
Hammond Building, University Park, PA 16802; Phone: (814)
863-1032; Fax: (814) 863-7496.
