Step 1: Engineering Design


"Engineering design" refers to the design of a system or device to perform a specified task. Presumably, this has already been completed, or you would not have anything to model. If so, skip ahead to Step 2: Model Design. Otherwise, read on.

If you are using rapid prototyping to model an object, engineering design should be completed without regard to the modeling technique. Design the device to meet the intended service and manufacturing requirements.

If you intend to use an RP machine for rapid manufacturing, the engineering design must reflect the capabilities and limitations of the particular technique. See Step 3 for details.
