Projects In Community Service

EPICS
(Engineering Projects in Community Service) has sponsored a voice
recognition trainer for a 5 year old autistic boy.
GEECS (Genuine Electrical Engineers Creating Solutions) was
selected to complete this project.
GEECS has created a comprehensive solution for the challenge of
teaching the boy verbal communications skills.
The Voice
Recognition Trainer (VRT) is a flexible voice-recognition system that
generates audio outputs (rewards) when correct speech is recognized. The
purpose of the VRT is to develop the verbal communication skills of this
child. He has extreme difficulties with verbal communication and is
unable to say complete words. In
developing his verbal skills the VRT will teach him that certain words
or sounds represent specific people, places and things.
