Project Title:  JLG Cab Rotator

Date:  Fall 2002

Project Team:  PPPS Associates

Project Sponsor: JLG Industries

Executive Summary:  JLG Industries requires a simpler way to finish assembly work on cabs for their 544D and their 532D10-45 material handler models. The cab for the material handlers is currently carried on a rolling cart which is inefficient because it lacks proper access for assembly (pictured below). JLG would like to have a mechanical device that enables rotation of the unfinished cab assembly on the current assembly line. Valves and hydraulic lines must be installed on the underside of  the cab, and JLG assemblers currently use creepers to install these valves and  lines. This problem would be remedied through a change in position of the cab. JLG would like to incorporate a design which first raises the cab to clear the cart and then rotates it 90 degrees in the forward or reverse direction (pictured below). This process will allow the underside of the cab to be easily accessed which will make assembling the cab easier, safer and more time efficient.  P.P.P.S. Associates has designed a cab rotation device that provides rapid access on the assembly line while maintaining efficient handling of the cab before and after this section of the assembly line.

Deliverables:  Half-Scale Prototype, Bill of Materials for Full-Scale Rotator, Assembly Diagrams for Full-Scale Rotator.
