Problem Statement

  • Scientific Systems Inc. had an antiquated system that was used to test their precision pumping systems. The process not only needed to become more efficient, but the company also wanted to increase the test’s precision.

SSI had purchased a mass flow meter to test with higher accuracy and efficiency. Our team’s job was to learn about the operation of the mass flow meter and to design an interface for use with this new test apparatus.

Because SSI had never used the mass flow meter before, it was the team’s job to learn about the functionality of the device.  The user interface had to be easy to use and provide all of the necessary information so that the testing process could be improved.

  • Before this project, the company had never invested any time or money in designing a new test process. It had used the same process for well over a decade. The old test apparatus was clumsy to use and required excessive amounts of test time.

Solution

New Setup

The proposed solution selected was a user interface designed using C#. This new test process will benefit both the technicians that work for SSI and their customers. The ease of the process will decrease the time it takes for a pump to be manufactured, and it will reduce the number of errors that could be made by the technicians.

Since SSI has already purchased the mass flow meter, this solution will make the best use of their investment.
