This Web
Page is devoted to the Mechanical Engineering capstone project for the
Science Technology and Society department of The Pennsylvania State
University. One goal of this project is to research the
Gamble Mill in Bellefonte Pennsylvania in order to learn the aspects of
design and integration of "heritage" technologies. Another goal of
the project is to come up with various scalable designs this mill could
be used for using present day science and technology.
Currently,
the idea is to apply these designs and ideas into a versatile "package"
that could be marketed to various people. These people could be
interested in renovating old mills for residential or commercial use, or
are building "off the grid" structures to accomplish various tasks such
as power generation, milling, or pumping.
UPDATE 4/1/03
Here is an
update on progress. The following is the presentation that
illustrates our progress and design goals. This is a very close
idea of what our project will be.

UPDATE 4/28/03
This is the final update for our project. The
following slides are the final presentation our group will be presenting
to class and sponsor. Some interesting things to note are the
breast-wheel design, generator sizing program, and power generation
analysis.
