Project Summary
Case New Holland (CNH) is a worldwide manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment brands of the Case and New Holland families.  The team worked directly with a New Holland division located in Belleville, PA.

The problem identified at the plant deals with paint carts which hold reels for harvesters.  The carts can be adjusted to accommodate 12, 14, 16, and 18 foot reels, as market forecast demands.  However, the cart adjustment takes approximately 30 minutes for two workers to complete.  Most of this time is dedicated to removing paint covered masking tape and scraping off other built-up paint (pictures of problem).  Since there are six carts total, this translates into three hours or six man-hours each time an adjustment is required.

The objective of the project was to greatly reduce this time by eliminating paint build-up at the adjustment regions and simplifying the overall adjustment process.  Design accommodations that were considered are speed, simplicity in the changeover and painting process, durability, and cost.
