Final Circuit Analysis

Figure 1:
Final Circuit Block Diagram
A block diagram of our
final digital design can be found in Figure 1. To
compare the size and cost to the analog circuit, a board
space analysis and a price analysis were conducted. The
board space was found by looking up the footprint of the
parts and using a standard safety factor of 1.3 to allot
for spacing on the board. These values can be found in
the table below. The total board space of the digital
circuit is 38.13 mm2, less than half of the
existing analog circuit.

Cost analysis was
conducted by researching the cost of the individual
parts used in the digital circuit. The circuit was
found to cost $1.76, which is almost $3 cheaper than the
existing analog circuit.

Table 2: Board
Cost
The diode information
was found using
ONsemiconductor.
TI was
used to find the DSP, DAC, and op-amp data. The
resistors were researched using
DigiKey.
The digital board space
of 38.13 mm^2 is a 55% reduction from the analog board
space of 83.57. Additionally it has a cost reduction of
62.4% from $4.69 to $1.76. This meets the cost and
board space reduction requirements and is therefore a
successful solution for circuit replacement.
