Scholarships and Awards

Undergraduate Scholarships

All students in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering are automatically considered for a number of merit-based scholarships. You cannot apply for these scholarships, but you will be notified prior to the fall semester if you will be receiving one. Approximately 65 scholarships are awarded annually.

College and University Scholarships

Undergraduate Awards

Every spring semester, the department hosts a Senior Recognition Banquet to honor high-performing juniors and seniors and to distribute awards to recognize students who have excelled in areas of research, service, and academic performance.

Look for award applications to be posted in January.

Boeing Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Junior

The Boeing Award recognizes an outstanding junior in mechanical engineering with a demonstrated interest in the aerospace industry.

Thomas Briggs Hunter Memorial Award for Student Leadership in Mechanical Engineering

The Hunter Award recognizes a mechanical engineering student who has gone above and beyond in acts of service to his or her department, college, university, or community.

Dr. John P. Karidis Department Head's Award for Research Achievement in Mechanical Engineering

The Karidis Award recognizes a mechanical engineering student who has made significant research-related contributions to his or her area of study.

The Beecher Loftus Leadership & Service Award in Nuclear Engineering

The Beecher Loftus Leadership & Service Award recognizes a nuclear engineering student who has gone above and beyond in acts of service and leadership in his or her department, college, university or community related to the field of nuclear engineering.

The Baker Hughes Mechanical Engineering Student Scholarship

The Baker Hughes Mechanical Engineering Scholarship recognizes two mechanical engineering undergraduate students who balance academic excellence with outstanding extracurricular involvement.

John J. Brennan Excellence in Nuclear Engineering Award

The Brennan Award recognizes a nuclear engineering student for significant academic excellence.

Leonhard Center Speaking Contest

The Leonhard Center Speaking Contest recognizes technical talks on solutions to society problems by engineering students.

We offer B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering as well as resident (M.S., Ph.D.) and online (M.S., M.Eng.) graduate degrees in nuclear engineering and mechanical engineering.
